1967 Mustang For Sale, $2,500

7abc9aebWhen I went out to take a look at this mustang that I found posted on craiglist.com I had no ideas what I was about to find out about this old classic. Taking an initial look at it wasn’t too devastating compared to the other half dozen or so I had looked at prior to stumbling across this one.

It had been painted, kind of an iridescent blue color, it was dirty had a flat tire, the front bumper was missing, the hood and front valance had some damage but that was about it.

The old Mustang, 41 years old now had been through a few modifications aside from the “custom” paint job. The engine had been replaced with a 351 Windsor “A great engine to say the least” lots of horse power and very responsive. The front end had been lowered to achieve that nice rake that was very popular in the 70’s, with the addition of the Crager wheels and the air shocks on the rear she was definitely showing her age.

The interior of the car was really worn with two different seats, “I suspect the driver side seat frame had  broken from the driver being repeatedly punched back in the seat, every time the pedal was pushed to the metal” after all the engine was chained down to the frame to keep it from ripping out the shock tower. The headliner had been removed, only one door panel in very poor shape remained, the carpet had been removed as well as a few other components that were scattered throughout the back seat and trunk compartment.

0ce96e81This is where the trip out to see this Mustang for sale really starts to interest me. As I’m looking at the semi-stripped interior I see pink floor pans and inner rockers, “This car looks like it used to be pink” I say out loud to the seller. I go to the trunk compartment and open the trunk, “It’s pink, it has to be” there is pink over spray in the trunk compartment and where the trunk seal meets the body the blue paint is worn off down to the original pink paint. I’m starting to think this may be a Playboy Pink Mustang but I’m not totally convinced.

The Door Data Plate will give me some indication of option that this 1967 Mustang came with from the factory. So I open the driver door to take a look at the Door Data Plate that shows me the body, color, trim, build date, dso, axle and trans codes. The Color Code is blank, nothing there and the DSO showed 718000 a special order number.

94db734aI had a pretty good feeling about this car, it wasn’t all rusted out, somebody just had a little fun with the car and did a few modifications and it was most likely a Playboy Pink Mustang, so I made the deal and purchased the car and made arrangements to pick it up the following day.

On the way back to the house I called and put a message into a good friend and business associate at Scott Drake Enterprises to reinforce what I had suspected about the car being a Playboy Pink Mustang.

When I got the return call from Jerry at Scott Drake he said “congratulations, you own one of a couple hundred Playboy Pink Mustangs produced”. I am not sure about the total number produced or body style but when I get more information I will post it. I am going to be submitting the VIN and Door Data Plate Information to Marti Auto works to get a Marti Report that will tell me production information, what the car was equipped with and a lot more, looks like you can order online now and choose one of three reports including Standard, Deluxe and Elite. Look for my Marti-Report post in the near future.
