While I wait for my next order of parts to arrive for the Door and Window restoration I’ve got some down time. I take this free time to start on some of the smaller restoration projects for my classic Mustang; the windshield wipers is one of those projects.
I don’t have any of the new parts here yet for the windshield wipers like the wiper arm and blade kit, washer hose, washer nozzles, washer bag, and pump pedal pad but I’m going to go ahead and get started since the new parts will just go on the shelf next to the restored assembly.
I’ve disassembled my windshield wiper assembly by removing the wiper motor trans arms and wiper motor from the mounting bracket; and I have the washer pump and hardware all laid out ready to restore.
The mounting bracket, trans arms, washer pump and hardware all get ran through the bead blaster and receive the proper paint and protection.
The Wiper motor itself is cleaned up, sanded and then painted with a coat of primer and then semi flat black. Running the wiper motor through the bead blaster is something that would probably cause problems later down the road.
The wiper pump will receive a new washer hose kit, but I’ll still probably clean these up just to see if they are in good useable condition. The wiper pump gets taped off so glass bead does not get into the pump and then its bead blasted and painted semi flat black, the diaphragm is taped off so black paint does not get on it.
This task took me just a few hours to complete, including cleaning painting and assembly, and its done so I can check it off of my list. I’m still waiting for my next shipment for the doors and windows, so I’m going to see if I can find another small project… maybe the fuel system?

How tough is it to get to the leather seals? Looks like a tough spot to get to.
